When Does Synthetic Grass Need to Be Replaced?

By 25 September 2021

Lifespan of Synthetic Grass

Synthetic grass is very durable and should last for many years. It is resistant to wear and tear from regular use - even energetic sporting activities or the running-around of children - and will also resist fading as a result of exposure to sunlight and other environmental conditions. As such, it will stay both physically sound and great-looking for a long time with only a little maintenance - primarily an occasional sweep to remove debris and lift the pile.

An exact figure for the number of years your grass should last without needing replacement is hard to state with any certainty. It depends heavily on the type of grass used and the conditions it is in. However, most domestic users can expect a lifespan of over ten years.

Replacement as an Upgrade

There is one other reason you may want to replace artificial grass: to upgrade. Artificial turfs have come a very long way in recent years and are much more realistic, natural-looking and better-looking than before. Furthermore, there is a lot of difference between various quality grades.

If you have an old artificial grass installation that is either outdated or was rather cheap, then it may not look as good as the turf you could install now, even though it is still in good condition. As such, replacing this with new artificial grass could be an upgrade and give you a much better-looking lawn.
